Moxibustion

Moxibustion came before the application of needles. This practice stems back thousands of years as a way of nourishing the body by promoting the flow of blood and energy as well as warming cold, which causes pain and obstructs the flow of blood. The word acupuncture in Chinese is Zhen Jiu, translating as "needle moxibustion", which represents the two techniques being the primary way of stimulating acupuncture points to promote healing. I use a lot of moxa in winter, for both internal and external conditions and it is very effective and relaxing.
