About me

Johanna Edwards first began her journey into Chinese arts in 1998 through a one year Chinese language study at RMIT in Melbourne.
Upon completing the course she embarked on a 4 year Health Sciences degree in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at the University of Technology in Sydney.
During her studies, she was fortunate enough to spend one day per week over 3 and half years of hands-on practical learning with the acclaimed acupuncturist Prof. Hoc Ku Huynh at the New China Acupuncture Centre in Sydney's Chinatown.
During this "apprenticeship" with Dr Hoc she was able to grasp the true essence of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine from a genuine Chinese master.
Upon completion of her studies , Johanna journeyed to China where she worked in a Chinese hospital in Chan Chung , an area specially selected for her by her teacher Dr Hoc, as it would expose her to real Chinese treatments and methods and imbue her with the authentic Chinese perspective so essential for real Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment.
It is one thing to go to university in Australia and get a degree but unless the student has been to China, trained under a Chinese practitioner and understand the concept of Qi (Chi), then they are only getting half the picture.
Johanna practices Tai chi and Qi Gong (with the WTBA) which assists her to be in touch with her own chi and that of her patients.
Johanna has also completed post-graduate studies on Paediatric Chinese Medicine with Helen Gordon and has a special interest in family health care, using massage and herbs to treat children and acupuncture once they become comfortable.
Johanna offers a holistic approach to her work encompassing acupuncture, massage, cupping, moxibustion and Chinese herbal medicine, as well as dietary and lifestyle advice. Johanna believes in treating the body as a whole and does far more than just acupuncture.
Currently establishing herself in Victoria (her home state), after moving from Margaret River in WA, Johanna is available for consultation and treatments at Jan Juc Chiropractic and Natural Therapies on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Johanna specialises in general medicine and maintaining great health in her patients throughout all the stages of life. She also treats many other conditions including back pain, fertility, insomnia, anxiety and depression, irritable bowell, pregnancy care and many many other conditions.

"I see myself as a mechanic of the body. My aim is to restore balance and optimal functioning to my patient's health, like a smooth running car that has regular servicing. I view the body as an environmental state that needs adjusting when there is disharmony or ill health. Chinese herbal medicine and body work are the perfect tools to influence the internal and external harmony of the body's energy and blood flow. As a Chinese medicine practitioner it is a primary aim to prevent disease and keep the body strong and healthy to ward off disease. To do this is rewarding, I love my job."
